Friday night, we went out and bought an Elliptical! We both tried it out and decided it would work for us. Rick put it together, yesterday. I helped a little, then I went out to get a prescription before they closed at 1:00. I did some other running, too. He called me and said that he finished it but there was a problem. I had no clue what problem there could be. Well, he's 6 foot tall and hits the ceiling when he's on it. UH OH! It looks like we'll be moving it up here into what I lovingly call "My Room." It's the computer room and I guess it will now be called the Elliptical Room. That will be an addition. Nothing else will change. I want to lose 20 more pounds by my 50th b'day in May. I know I'll do it. I will only do my weigh-ins at the doctor's office. I get depressed when I step on home scales. They really are off!

I've never tried one but I hear great things about them. Alot of people swear by them. I would love to try one, but I was not given grace, balance or coordination at birth!! I cant even walk on a treadmill!! As far as equipment goes, I am stuck with my stationary bike!

Let us know how you like it!

They give a superior workout, I feel. I started out only being able to do a few minutes, but worked up to 30 or 45.

I love them!...will be on one tonight, in fact. Last night while running I started feeling a pinch in my left knee. When I get that I know it's time to stop running and do something less stressful on my joints for a while. The elliptical is my favorite, since I can adjust the resistence and, on some, the crossramp (incline) to a setting that is easy on my knees but still gives me a good cardio workout.

I have been doing an hour on the elliptical machine. It's great I burn up 900 calories.

Less stress on the knees, isn't it?

When I do an elliptical work out I feel it in my thighs. My legs sometimes feel weak afterwards especially when I go up and down steps after the workout.

Does yours also work out the arms?

I'm still not sure I can use one but I've been keeping my eyes open for a good, used one. If it doesnt work out I can always turn around and re-sale it.

The Elliptical at the clubhouse gym kills me...maybe the tension was too tight...will have to give it another go and make adjustments..never thought of that.

This is supposed to be easy on the knees. I guess my right knee is pretty bad right now. I've cut to doing the elliptical to 5-6 minutes. I still get my workout but I have to watch it, too. I guess I need to go to the doctor, too.

I have been looking for a used one now for about a month with no luck. People either respond to me and then ignore me when I am ready to make a deal or by the time I see it in the paper its already sold. I don't want to buy a brand new one only to find its not my cup of tea but I really want to give this a shot. I need to shake up my routine.

Back in the 70's, we had a bathroom scale with a message that said, "What you see is what you got". HaHa.

Most people suggest, using the same scale to weigh yourself because the positioning of the scale matters. At a gym or doctor's office they are well maintained and more accurate, I find, than the ones most people have in their homes.

I don't pay as much attention to my weight, I go by clothing sizes.

I have a really nice set I bought a few months back. I only sit them on one spot on my bathroom floor to weigh myself.

I weigh the morning of my WW's meeting without clothes. I then weigh at noon at WW's with clothes but no shoes and the two sets of scales weigh me the same. And both are digital scales! So you are right about how they can vary.

I remember weighing in after Christmas holidays once and I was the only person that lost four pounds instead of maintaing their weight or gaining. I still ate turkey and all the trimmings, just less of it.

I enjoy the elpitical. When I first started training again, I was only using the treadmill, then I tried the eliptical and fell in love with it. It works the same muscle groups that I work during my Spin Cycle classes so I use it on alternate days.

Sonny and I were at Sports Authority today..I tried out all their ellipticals..haha..got a workout with it too. Of course I liked the one that was $995...We have them at our clubhouse so I won't buy one. I love the ones that have the front arm attachments because this gives the waist a twist while holding on them.

Do you mean the arms that move or those shorts arms? Mine doesnt have the short ones, it has handles on both sides of the monitor. You can grab ahold of them and it takes your heart rate.

When I saw this thread I thought it was a really bad spelling of eclipse! Did anyone get to see any of that?
