The first Christmas DVD I bought was, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, from Rankin & Bass. About a week later, I bought, A Charlie Brown Christmas, The Year Without A Santa Claus and A Christmas Carol (1951).
I think way back, when I got my first VHS, I bought, White Christmas. I remember how fun it was and is, to add Christmas favorites to my collection.

I'm not sure what was the first christmas DVD we bought...We had almost everything on VHS, and I think the first christmas DVD we got was a strawberry shortcake cartoon (it was when the girls were real small)...We still have it too...Over the years i've slowly replaced all my VHS with DVD's.

It's been fun, replacing VHS with DVD over the years, but way back in '84, when I got my first VHS player, I taped Rudolph and the other CBS Christmas specials and I still have that VHS.

I bet those are fun to watch with all the old commercials...You can find old holiday commercials on Youtube too, I love watching them.

I've been checking out, YouTube a lot, lately, looking for old Christmas commercials and such. They sure had some classics when I was growing up and the one announcer had such a distinctive voice, too!

If we could include albums and cassettes, more of us could play. I used to buy John Denver Christmas cassettes.

I didnt buy it but the first Christmas DVD I got was National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Goldie bought it for me. I'm not sure what the first one was that I bought. I can look thru my collection though and I'll remember then.

I misread that and thought we were talking about CDs. OK, the first Christmas DVD I bought was The Santa Clause.

I love my Christmas specials and films, but VHS and DVD has kind of spoiled me. Remember when we were kids...well, when some of us were kids and we didn't have VHS or DVD and if we missed the TV broadcast of any special, we were out of luck till the following year?

Yes, it was a one shot deal and that was that. I remember getting to miss church a couple of times because we begged to stay home and watch the cartoons instead.

LOL You know, even when I was a teen, I was still wild about my animated Christmas specials and that love has never eased up. I was rather shocked to find that my young nieces and nephews....well, the 14, 13 and 12 year old all seem bored by the animated Christmas specials. My youngest niece, who turned 2, in May, she loves them, so she and I will continue to enjoy those, together...I tell my brother, he and his wife are raising her very well...to appreciate the classics. LOL

I think my obsession started as a teenager...I used to lock myself in my room and watch fox family 25 days of christmas (it was before it was ABC)...I loved christmas specials as a kid, but I wasn't obsessed with them till I was about 15 or 16.

Oh yeah, obsession is a good word. When I am having to buy extra VCR's just so I can record stuff. Last year I had them all going but Tom wanted to watch a regular program. So I pulled a small tv from the spare bedroom, hooked up and rabbit ears and sat it on a tv tray right in front of his chair! He wasn't getting the big tv's!!

LOL We began hosting a Christmas Eve afternoon get together a few years ago and I put the TV on the ABC 25 Days of Christmas that day, as I believe they were showing all the Rankin & Bass Christmas specials and I just dared anyone to ask for the remote.

That's one thing that annoys me about going to family's houses on christmas eve or day, NO ONE likes to watch christmas shows...It DRIVES ME CRAZY!! Who wants to watch non christmas shows on christmas? I can't wait till we have a bigger house and I can start doing christmas here (we did have christmas at home with just us once, it was kind of depressing), but then again, I'm not sure if I'd want all my family over.

My dad is that person. He would rather what the Sci-Fi channel and the X-Files. Drives me totally insane! Last year I hosted and not only did I have Christmas music playing I also had Christmas Vacation on the big screen. He never said a word about it but I was waiting for him to ask me for the remote.

probably Home Alone... I know its technically not a christmas movie, but it is based around Christmas, and reminds me of it and my childhood, I watched it so much as a child....

My brother watches MTV and weird stuff (he's almost 40 BTW)...My mom wrapped up her tv like a present for a couple of years and put a big bow on it, so no one would turn her christmas music off...My brother and sister are awful and they are lazy, they all just lay around and sleep on christmas....They are grown with adult children of their own, it amazes me that they still act that way (i'm the youngest of 4)...My mom puts alot of work into christmas too, and I know it hurts her feelings and every year she says she's done doing it.

I know when I was a kid, we traveled to both sets of grandparents and I can't remember what we watched at Grandma and Granddad's, if anything, they might have had music playing, but one thing I always loved in the afternoon at Grandma and Charlie's, they used to broadcast, Davey and Goliath's Christmas special: Christmas Lost. My cousins and I would all sit around and just be totally quiet for 30 minutes. LOL
