I was having a hard time coming up with a new theme then we took the kids to the County Fair in our area. Do any of you folks have some kind of county fair in your areas? What do you like best about them?

I'm wish. I miss county fairs. We only have the regular fairs with rides etc.

This is the first time we've taken our kids to the county fair, hubby and I just aren't big on some of those rides. I used to love them as a kid but now that I've gotten older the motion sickness seems to bother me now. We did watch some miniature pony pulls though and we looked at some of the exhibits of things that won prizes in the food canning category and quilts. Also some one had a display of some really old pics from past county fairs.
Also the cheese fries were to die for. (of course, if you eat enough of those things will die for them).

I loved county fairs when I as a kid. Even back then I didn't care much for the rides. I think I just liked the atmosphere.

I used to show birds at the fair for about 14 years. I now love going for the food and stands. I had a huge pretzel this year and tried a deep fried twinkie. The big deal was deep fried kool aid but I passed on that.
I took their idea of chocolate covered bacon and use that at the cafe now.

I've never heard of chocolate covered bacon. My daughter heard me read that and she said, "Chocolate covered bacon! Yum!"
How the heck do you deep fry kool aid?!

School will be starting up soon, for some it may have started already. I remember what some of the lunches for school were like when I was growing up (mystery meat anyone?). Kids have so many more choices now. Where my kids go to school the kids get a choice of the hot lunch, soup and sandwich or a salad. All we had for choices was the hot lunch or you brought it from home. How about you guys?
