It's a shame you don't like to decorate. I really like that tablecloth. I know, out of all that stuff, why the tablecloth? It reminded me of the older 60s decor, I guess.

01-25-2007, 07:12 PM
Yeah I like that one too.
Maybe I should have put it in my bat room ,but I needed one there that was a little brighter (stereo area) since it was darker down there and it seemed to go with the bones in the room I thought.
Plus I had so many other tables, I used all my black ones in other areas.
I think I bought that for a buck somewhere.

Ohhh I have lots of branches I love it. Gotta make one. I like the bottom one too. Now is that going to be a head stone? I know I should know what it is but I don't. I would love to find out what you order to get that large piece of foam.

Tim Burton made a movie called Vincent before he became famous with A Nightmare Before Christmas. It is being redone in 3D and will be shown as a short before the 3D version of ANBC. Supposed to be really good. Read about it here: http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment_movies_blog/2007/04/burtons_vincent.html

Christy Carol
04-04-2007, 10:02 AM
It took me a few minutes too but I think it is a headstone. She painted it to look like polished marble...I think.

Ervserver
04-04-2007, 11:13 AM
Light really prepares ahead of time don't she...wish I could be more like that

xmaslilly
04-08-2007, 06:49 PM
Yes the black piece is a headstone..sry guess I didn't put what it was.
Painted white latex to seal it then black enamel with blotted gold enamel and painted gold caulk on the front.
Covered the back that had hole from order piece with cardboard, caulked edges then painted that.
It will be mounted onto a heavy stone so it won't be blowing away no time soon.
I ordered a motorcycle table top decor thingy and it was in that foam
.
I got the idea for the swing from a catalog pic of a small table top decoration seen here
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j136/imdiamondlilly/SWING.jpg
sorry don't remember the name of catalog site ,, I have to start naming them in my pics I save.

way cool! I'd like to learn how to make them

xmaslilly
07-17-2007, 02:04 PM
here ya go ERV..

Original hot glue gun skeleton bats How to:

I started out with a plaster slab and switched over to parchment paper
you can pull the glue up from that easier
draw/outline your :
wings
body- spine ,ribs, breastbone
legs
pelvis
head
jaw line
if using plaster, carve a small ditch so to speak mist that down...
but believe me parchment paper is best

hot glue along your outlines,
fill in where needed..like head top and pelvis let cool..... pull up

lay a bead of glue for back bone for length needed
(depending how big you are making this
small 1/4 in or so
large 1/2 in
lay a thicker horizontal line for shoulder bone..keeping some above for neckbone
then crossways on the backbone lay 5 or 6 lines separated evenly for ribs

on one side only lay another line vertical to the rib bones for breast bone
when cool flip over to attach ribs..that way rounded side out
attach rib sections one at a time,
to breastbone with spot of the hot glue on !! warm setting!! for this hold till set
glue legs to pelvis from underside
glue pelvis to bottom of spine ( underside pelvis to top side backbone )
attach head to jaw line...
build back of jaw line up one glue line at a time 2 or 3 should be fine !! warm setting also !!
attach head to upper spine
attach wings at each shoulder !! warm setting !!
(one wing will be flipped if using same outline for both)

**When doing a dragon make sure it is thicker for sturdiness ..and backbone tail is made by 1. drawing on paper, 2. then turn over paper !!
3. then following that pattern make one side ...
4. when that is cool peel off set aside..
5. turn paper back over and then follow where you first drew pattern ..
( this is because the glue will pull up some of your pencil or ink and you will lose your pattern)
6. peel off when cooled set flat sides together they should line up
7. lay a bead lengthwise and glue flat sides together.
8 that is your neck..backbone..and tail section so make it big and sturdy enough to fit and hold neck and shoulders ,ribs, pelvis

I then hot glued string to shoulders for hanging and then one from the back area also
three points !!warm setting"

may be painted for bone effect
or leave clear and they look great under blacklight, making a cool blue effect

Christy Carol
07-17-2007, 03:41 PM
Lots of patience in creating those!!

Ervserver
07-17-2007, 03:55 PM
they look so cool though, I may attempt to make one

xmaslilly
07-17-2007, 06:07 PM
Not really Christy
once/ if you make a small one you will see how easy
they are prob 15 min for small one to make
prob 1/2 hr to 45 for large
Erv...I hope you try one don't forget to post you rpic!

Christy Carol
07-17-2007, 06:48 PM

I started with a bigger glue gum that used medium sticks for the large bat..I don't know if it was the gun or not but I didn't like it..so I switched over to my mini when iI did the dragon..
You just need to have sticks ready to load so you can keep a solid line and then start another right away to width you want.

It just so happens that Halloween is my second favorite holiday. Actually if I had to judge my self, I am better at HAlloween decorating than Christmas. When it comes to Christmas decorating I am around the top, but when it comes to Halloween I am the King. Most of my neighbors refere to me as the Halloween guy. I can't wait.
Do anyone else enjoy creating a cemetary?

I'm gonna ship y'all some snow

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/Javern/misc/snowtruck.gif

Ok, I am waiting! What time will you be here?

Yoda, I used to do a cemetery. I bought that cheap white plastic fencing and would beat it all up and break some of it and stick it lopsided and broken down in the ground. Then I would make headstones out of plywood and paint them with that gray spray paint that when dried has a rough, stone feel and look to it.

Outline it in black mini lights, throw in a couple of bones and skulls and I was set!

Out here the first Friday after LAbor Day the Spirit HAlloween stores opens. But it's never full yet. the first few weeks they are setting up and slowly getting stuff in. But if you want the good stuff thats when you got to shope there, before they sell out. There are 2 other Halloween stores that open around here also.

I put my outdoor Halloween display up in the middle of October. It is always the week-end that I don't have a football game to attend. I may put it up a little earlier this year. My neighbor on October 1 puts his stuff up but all he has is a couple airblowns. I deck out the entire yard. I wouldn't mind putting it up earlier if more people did something for Halloween. There are a few but not that many. I think I have started a trend. Nine years ago when I moved here not 1 house did anything for HAlloween. Each year I have made my display bigger and now it's as big as Christmas.

NOw for Halloween I convert my entire backyard into a cemetary and make the trick or treators come into the backyard to get the candy. It amazes me how many kids won't even go back there.

Actually the person with the candy lays in the coffin. I make them knock on the coffin to get candy. The biggest problem I have is getting people to figure out to go in the back yard. I have rope lights that lead from the side walk to the back yard gate, but still everyone goes to the front door and gets no answer. I need to put a sign up this year. Or maybe I will make some signs that say cemetary this way and try to point people to the gate.

I think if DoubleA was in the coffin by the time somebody knocked he wouldn't answer casue he would have eaten all the candy.:c17:

Do you use a real or fake pumpkin?

If real, how do you carve it?

When do you put your pumpkin out and light it up?

Curious minds want to know! Also, please post pictures here! I love to see new ideas!

Now for my answers. I normally use both real and fake. The past two years I have used only fake due to time restraints but this year I hope to do some carving. I like to do very elaborate pumpkins.

I will probably put my fake pumpkin out around the end of this month. I probably wont light it until a few weeks before Halloween but it is so large you can see him from the road in the daylight. I got it at Target around 8 years ago and wish I could find another one that size.

Ervserver
09-11-2007, 06:59 PM

I have a fake one that I put out on the stoop, but every year I also do a real one, which usually dies in the heat because October is not very chilly around here. I even tried Fruit Fresh to see if that would help and it didn't. Other than starting later, have any of you found a fool proof way to preserve your jack-o-lanterns?

My huge fake jack (that foam type material) is back together!!! The silicone worked and I changed the light fixture out in it so I am ready to go. For those of you that missed where I posted somewhere on here, my cats knocked it off the front porch last year (after chewing the cord in two) and it split wide open at the seam. I know I need to replace it but I can't. It has sentimental value so if I can get one more year out of it I will.

I always buy real pumpkins and the bigger the better!!!!!

Every year I carve about 4 of them. And I have to admit I am not very good at carving them. I use the freestyle cut method. I prefere the amature pumpkins to those perfect cut silouettes. I have nothing against them and think they are beautiful, but I like the un-perfect pumpkin face.

This year I am going to line the entire fence in my backyard. I think it will give a very nice effect. The entire cematary surrounded by pumpkins.

I know what you mean Yoda. I have absolutely no self-control when it comes to candy-- chocolate especially. If there is candy in the house, I WILL eat it. It won't last. That's why I only buy it about once a week-- it's all I would eat if we always had it!*

*Except for Hamburgers, Fries, Pumpkin Pie, Christmas Cookies... The list goes on.

I've been so in the mood for some Homemade Pumpkin Pie lately. I might make some when it cools down a little. My Grandma made me TWO pumpkin pies and a cake for my 15th birthday in MARCH. Everyone thought I was crazy that I asked for Pumpkin Pie in the Spring, but I absolutely love it and I hate that everyone always considers it a holiday season food-- I would LOVE to eat it year round, but then, I guess it wouldn't be quite as special. :)

Everyone at work is already asking me when I am making my pumpkin bread! They know I do it for Thanksgiving but I guess it cant hurt to start asking now.

I wish I didn't have a sweet tooth, but I think I'd starve to death without it.

I believe sugar is a very necessary nutrient needed by our bodies, scientist just haven't discovered that yet.

You are just trying to get me to buy those Snickers.

You should! I've yet to buy any mini candy bars, I'd eat them all!

Thats what I am afraid I will do. I really don't care for chocolate but I can eat a Snicker in record time if I have a hankering for them.

I have to wait at least a couple more weeks, Kim goes to Florida for a week at the end of the month and me alone with mini candy bars is not good

Before long people will start bringing candy to work. I take what they offer and then bring it home for Tom. Unless its something I really like. They I eat it a little at a time!

I've been thinking about getting one of those fog machines like you see at Wal Mart, anyone have one? any pros or cons? don't want to make the trick or treaters sick or anything.

I don't have one now but used too. They are ok if you use it outside. The fog tends to hang around ground level up to around waist level on a shorter adult. It can get a little thick and aggravate eyes and noses and such but again, if used outside they are worth their money.

I will strictly be using it outside, I'd like to create a fog in the dense growth of my gardens that are on both side of the sidewalk. I was hoping it would sort of hang in there and not really be on the walk way

I have 3 fog machines and use all 3 of them outside on Halloween. I have never had any problem with the fog. I have 2 that are the cheap from Wal-MArt ones and 1 professional quality one.
One tip to keep the fog around the ground instead of just going everywhere have the fog run over or through ice, then it will hover on the ground.

Now has anyone ever seen or used one of these. It's a flame machine. It gives the appearance of a 3 foot flame. Are they cool or lame. I was thinking of adding this to the cemetery, but not sure if it is worth the money.
Any advise?
