SANTA

Snowflakes softly falling
Upon your window they play
Your blankets snug around you,
Into sleep you drift away.

I bend to gently kiss you,
when I see that on the floor
there's a letter, neatly written
I wonder who it's for.

I quietly unfold it
making sure you're still asleep,
It's a Christmas list for Santa
one my heart will always keep.

It started just as always
with the toys seen on TV,
A new watch for your father
and a winter coat for me.
But as my eyes read on
I could see that deep inside
there were many things you wished for
that your loving heart would hide.

You asked if your friend Molly
could have another Dad;
It seems her father hits her
and it makes you very sad.

Then you asked dear Santa
if the neighbors down the street
Could find a job, that he might have
some food, and clothes, and heat.

You saw a family on the news
whose house had blown away,
"Dear Santa, send them just one thing
a place where they can stay."

"And Santa, those four cookies that
I left you for a treat,
Could you take them to the children
who have nothing else to eat."

"Do you know that little bear I have
the one I love so dear?
I'm leaving it for you to take
to Africa this year".

"And as you fly your reindeer
on this night of Jesus' birth,
Could your magic bring to everyone
goodwill and peace on earth".

"There's one last thing before you go,
so grateful I would be,
If you'd smile at Baby Jesus
in the manger by our tree."

I pulled the letter close to me'
I felt it melt my heart.
Those tiny hands had written
what no other could impart.

"And a little child shall lead them,"
was whispered in my ear
As I watched you sleep on Christmas Eve
while Santa Claus was here.

Wow Fenwick...that was wonderful and very touching. If you have any others, please share. :):

Didn't know where to put this:

Saying Grace

Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My
six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we
bowed our heads he said, "God is good. God is great.
Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you
more if Mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty
and justice for all! Amen!"

Along with the laughter from the other customers
nearby I heard a woman remark, "That's what's wrong
with this country. Kids today don't even know how to
pray. Asking God for ice-cream! Why, I never!"

Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me,
"Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?" As I held him
and assured him that he had done a terrific job and
God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman
approached the table.
He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that
God thought that was a great prayer."
"Really?" my son asked. "Cross my heart," the man
replied.

Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating
the woman whose remark had started this whole thing),
"Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little
ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."
Naturally, I bought my kid's ice cream at the end of
the meal. My son stared at his for a moment and then
did something I will remember the rest of my life. He
picked up his sundae and without a word, walked over
and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile
he told her, "Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good
for the soul sometimes; and my soul is good already."

That was a really good story despite the absence of eggnog. Too bad some folks want to be right so badly they have to make out that everybody else is wrong in order to get there.

Some people use a little ice cream in eggnog. Depending on the ingredients.

You could make a good living as that little red guy who pops up on my shoulder now and again.
