View Full Version : Christmas Inventory

Do you keep any sort of inventory of what Christmas decorations you have? Besides just writing on your tubs what they contain?
I am considering doing this because I honestly cannot remember what all I have! Twice this summer I almost bought Christmas place mats and napkins only to go digging thru a box a few weeks ago and finding the ones I bought new after Christmas last year that I had forgotten about!
Then just now I found my Santa and Snowman salt and pepper shakers that a friend bought me last year and again, I had forgotten about them.
So I am thinking of making a list this year as I am setting stuff out. Anything I will no longer use or that I plan to retire will be removed and set aside and not put on the list. That way as I am picking stuff up after Christmas I will know exactly what I have and don't need.
What do you think?

You missed the 2nd question. I asked what do you think?
This one subject and you have nothing to say.
How about if I asked if you kept inventory of your eggnog containers?

I pack stuff in tubs and rely on my memory as to what I have. Situation is different for each person. There are computer inventory programs you can organize your stuff and keep photos then in case of fire you have proof for the insurance company, that would be a good idea if you have a lot of collectibles

Christy, I am having the same problem. I label my tubs and think I will remember, then I don't. So this year, If I put up stuff, I am going to put something in a computer file etc. As You probably know, I have had a bad year with everyone being sick and dying etc. redecorating etc and I want to put stuff up, but somedays, I think I will be ahead if I skip some things. I am so behind on my yard clean up and indoor work, I am getting overwhelmed.

I know this is an old post from 2007, but everyone has given me a good idea, not sure that I will start this when I start my putting away this year as I have a limited time to put it away.
But I have one certain spot that I put all of my placemats and tablecloths so I might take a day in the summer when the boys are go-kart racing and make an inventory for them.

I on the other hand mostly have Blowmolds and strings of lights. So i have the spools in a caring case the local LOWES store has. The inside is just a christmas tree. The kids are old enough to let ME decorate inside if i want but they didnt help this year outside. All the ornimants are in clear plastic totes from Walmart a few years ago. I am going to take the suggestion and make a list. A friend has the same problem.

Everything Christmas has a index card with a wallet sized picture on it. I do have insurance on my decorations. Especially my hallmark, white house ornaments, and all of my crystal ornaments. All my blow molds, wire frames and inflatables have pics too. I try to keep it all in the index card file in my safe. I like the hard copy I guess that comes from age. Ancient history was my favorite subject.2797
