Does anyone make fruitcake? And is it time to start? I've never done it before, but I love good homemade fruitcake.
My mom used to make it but she's older now and doesn't do that sort of thing any more. I miss having it and that store bought stuff is worthy of all the fruitcake jokes I've ever heard.

I have never made it but I will try to find a good recipe and find out when you start. I know someone that makes it every year and it is pretty good. Maybe she will give me her recipe.

Thank you!
My mom used to make it every year, but she's old now, and I asked her about it and she couldn't remember. I can't seem to find her recipe, either.

What is your "New" favorite Christmas Cookie? Don't tell us about the old favorite that your mom used to make. What is the newest kind of Christmas Cookie that wowed your socks off!?

:D Honestly, the simpler the better for my baking schedule. Then I'd have more time to play on the computer. Of course, I have many recipes, but haven't done any baking for awhile. I can't eat sweets anymore, but I have promised to bake some goodies for my husband to enjoy.
 Last time I made him a Father's Day Cake and I made a Birthday Brownie -Pudding cake, but I went the simple way and grabbed a mix from the shelf. He finished those cakes off in three or four days.

Seven layer cookies
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 cup shredded coconut
6 oz butterscotch chips
6 oz chocolate chips
1 can sweet condensed milk
1 cup walnuts
Melt 1 stick butter in a jelly roll pan. Spread in pan (in layers) - 1 cup of graham cracker crumbs, 1 cup of shredded coconut, 6 oz of butterscotch chips and 6 oz. of chocolate chips. Drizzle one can of sweet condensed milk on top. Add 1 cup of chopped walnuts on top. Bake at 350 degress for 30 minutes. Remove and let cool and then cut into squares.
I had one of these about a year ago.....they are indeed, yummy! Very sweet and rich, so about one small bar will do you....or two.....or was it, three? http://www.postsmile.com/img/winter/36.gif

All but the coconut sounds great. Seven layers might cause me to add one layer on to my outer shell, but it will be worth it.

Absolutely! I'm up at 12:45am because I ate some raisin bread that might have been past its sell by date, but I'd still enjoy fresh baked bread right now. My neighbors made it all the time when I was growing up. I remember a time when one of their dogs ate a loaf off the piano that was still rising. Dog was not in very good shape after that.

Now thru December I do lots of baking, one of the best tools I can recommend for your kitchen is silicone baking mats. I love them
Snowflake
11-13-2007, 04:31 PM
I have been intending to get one of those silcone mats for my cookie sheet. They would be great.
Raisin Bread sliced thick makes really good French Toast. A couple of years ago Walmart made their own or trucked the dough in, anyway they would make it in a whole loaf or sliced. I always loved the whole loaf, which I could slice at the thickness i want and it made the best French Toast. But now our Walmart doesnt do it anymore, they have a good raisin bread, also Cranberry bread and an apple bread, but thinly sliced.
I haven't made homemade bread or 'stickey buns' as they call them today in many years. I should make some. I supose my recipe is probably outdated for all the new ingredients. When i use to make it, we had to sift the flour etc.

Okay I didn't know where to put this but I think it will fit right here.
When I bake I always break a cookie or a brownie. Like today we had a bowl full of cookies that didn't make the tins. We mixed them all up and poured a cup of eggnog on them. Beat it with a mixer and poured them in a small baking sheet with sides and baked them. We had instant spiced eggnog bars for the tins. Sadly only a few made there way into the tins cause the rest were eaten up by friends and hubby.:c5:

Did that idea just come to you or have you tried it before. Seems that the already baked cookies would become burned the 2nd time around.
