Positive Energy, Anything, Anything...

This is going to sound SO ineloquent and jumbled and ahhhh, because I'm just SO upset right now.

My cousin Schuyler is one of my best friends. At 15 years old, she has been through more hell than I know 99% of people experience in a lifetime. Several years ago, she was diagnosed with pseudo tumor cerebri (or intracranial hypertension). Basically it's increased pressure/swelling on the brain and a buildup of spinal fluid. She's been in and out of the hospital for years, but now, you could say she pretty much lives there.

For two months straight (with the exception of two or three nights), she's been there. I can't count how many surgeries she has undergone. First they put a shunt in her back, then they had to put one in her head, and they've had to go back in OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER because the operations failed. Even the trained professionals are puzzled. She got sent home on Easter, only to be back in for another surgery when spinal fluid started leaking out of the incision in her back. She's been in the hospital since then, had her head partially shaved, and the shunt put in her head, and was sent home Friday, only to be back in again now because the fluid is leaking once again.

I just don't know what to do or say anymore. She is SO strong and has handled this with so much grace and bravery, and yet, it becomes too much for her sometimes. When I went in to see her last week, she was literally bawling from the pain. She RARELY cries, so I just knew it wasn't stabbing pain. I mean she was seriously in AGONY. And I shouldn't be the one complaining, but I just NEED to know that she's going to be okay. I NEED this operation to work. If she can't get better for herself, then I'm going to be selfish and ask that she get better for me, for our family, because I need her. WE need her. I can't lose her. WE can't lose her.

Seriously, any positive energy sent her way would be so appreciated. Or just a pat on the back or some hugs. If you're a praying type of person, please pray for her. Whatever it takes. I just need her to get better.

Special prayers going out for her right away SarahE. Sounds like she has
indeed been through a lifetime of suffering and pain at such a young age.
It is indeed a great comfort I'm sure for her to have you beside her along
the way. I'll be praying for her and for your continued strength as well.

Thanks so much. I'm just so scared to answer the phone anymore in fear of the news I'm going to hear.

Just finished a prolonged prayer for your cousin. How do you pronounce her name, by the way? Shy-ler?

Adding her to my prayers as well. Please don't think of it as a selfish request. It's a genuine request from one member of the family who loves another member.

It's Sky-ler.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. She got out of surgery at 1am yesterday and is going to be on a prolonged bedrest so hopefully this doesn't happen again.

She has since had another operation due to pressure on the ventricles in her brain. I think she was most upset about the fact that they had to completely shave off her hair in the back.

Schuyler is in my prayers and has been added to our prayer group. She is so young to have to deal with so much pain. I will keep her in our prayers. You being there has to be a great comfort for her. Let her know we are praying for her. I will keep you in my prayers to keep you strong for her.
I am so sorry to hear all the pain she is in. God bless her and your family.

Schuyler is having surgery again tomorrow. The shunt is being adjusted in her head. Her entire head will have to be shaved now. You can imagine how devastating this is to a 15 year old girl...

That would be lovely, guys. LIU, I will pm you my address...
